Help the Poor November 5, 2009

Scripture:

Galatians 2:9-10 “They encouraged us to keep preaching to the gentiles, while they continued their work with the Jews. The only thing they suggested was that we remember to help the poor, and I have certainly been eager to do that.”

Observation:

My notes say “The need for believers to care for the poor is a constant theme in Scripture.  But often we do nothing, caught up in meeting our own needs and desires.  Perhaps we don’t see enough poverty to remember the needs of the poor.”  One of the things recently discussed at church is the value of a mission trip.  Despite the gigantic cost for relatively low impact on the region, the potential impact on the person sent is the change in mindset and compassion for the poor.

Application:

I don’t think I’ll be going on any trip that takes me more than a couple miles away from home, but I know there is poverty right here in Spokane.  I need to break the bubble of my life and make some deep in-roads to this population.  How?

Prayer:

Lord, please show me and my family our role in battling poverty.
